Preparation Methods

There are two ways to prepare your encapsulated placenta.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Method

Basics on how it is done - it is steamed then dried and encapsulated.

Pills - for an average sized placenta (meaning an average sized baby) you get about 130 pills.

Pros to this method

  • Steaming kills any surface bacteria on the placenta.
  • Steaming makes the iron more bioavailable. We don't know if this applies to human iron because most studies have been done on plant and animal sources of iron.

Cons to this method

  • The placenta loses about 35% of its mass during steaming (most of it is blood). This means fewer pills.

Raw Foods Method

Basics on how it is done - it is sliced then dried and encapsulated.

Pills - for an average sized placenta (meaning an average sized baby) you get about 169 pills.

Pros to this method

  • You will get more pills from the same sized placenta

Cons to this method

  • The placenta is not cooked even though it is fully desiccated. Although we don’t have reports of foodborne illnesses from the Raw Foods method of the prepared placenta, it’s possible the risk for foodborne illness is increased, however unlikely.

You can choose either way that you would like to have your placenta encapsulated
